The company is building two other hydro plants in Brazil, with a total capacity of 4,300MW. When all of GDF SUEZ's projects are operating, it will have an installed capacity of 12,000MW. Chairman and chief executive G é rard Mestrallet says: "With the constantly growing demand for electricity, Brazil is at the heart of our group's strategic development in Latin America."
Plant opens year ahead of schedule
A 241-megawatt (MW) hydro-electric plant was opened in Brazil last week by GDF SUEZ, through its subsidiary, Tractebel Energia. The total investment was about $396m.
