Eletrobras, Brazil’s main utility, is planning to develop 15 hydropower plants in Peru totalling 20GW. An estimated 80% of the energy will be sent to Brazil, with the remainder staying in Peru.
Currently, five hydropower plants totalling 6GW are under development by Eletrobras in Peru, at a cost of about $16bn.
Its initial project, the $4bn 2.2GW Inambari dam, is overseen by Inambari Geração de Energia, a joint-venture company, 49% co-owned by Eletrobras and state utility Furnas, with the remaining 51% owned by construction company OAS.
