The company has submitted in a licence application to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (Ferc) to run a pilot at its Cobscook Bay project off the state of Maine.
Go-ahead from Ferc will clear the way for ORPC to test and refine a 150kW TidGen tidal turbine as a grid-connected installation.
The full-scale machine will measure 29 metres by 15.2 metres and stand 9.5-metres-tall
