Warm surface water heats a working fluid to a vapour, which drives a turbine, or acts as the working fluid itself. Cold water condenses the working fluid, which cycles back through the process. When seawater is the working fluid, the process also desalinates the water.
Navy grant for ocean thermal
Aerospace and technology giant Lockheed Martin has been awarded $8m by the US Navy to develop ocean thermal-energy conversion (OTEC) technology.
