The 5MW scheme, earmarked for Kyle Rhea, a strait between the Isle of Skye and the Scottish mainland, would be able to generate electricity for up to 4,000 homes in the Highlands & Islands area using four of MCT's SeaGen machines.
Progress on the £35m ($55.3m) project hinges on securing a lease agreement from the UK Crown Estate, gaining planning approval from the Scottish government through its Marine Scotland office, and raising finance.
