The Nam Theun 2 hydropower project, situated in Nakai Plateau in central Laos, diverts water from Nam Theun River to the Xe Bang Fai River. Construction works for the project started in 2005.
The landlocked Southeast Asian country is getting about 200-300GWh of electricity from the hydropower plant for its own domestic use while about 5,300GWh is exported to neighbouring Thailand.
