The ruling also prevents BNDES, the national development bank, from transferring funds to the consortium Norte Energia (Nesa), which is building the 11GW hydro plant.
Belém court federal judge Ronaldo Destêrro ruled that Nesa has not complied with required environmental and social conditions imposed by Ibama, the Brazilian environmental agency, to allow construction to begin.
