The Washington-based multilateral agency will inject the cash into the Chilean Renovarum fund, which will in turn make equity investments in up to eight small-hydro projects in the South American nation.
The projects would add about 160MW to Chile’s clean-energy capacity, says the IDB.
Chile is currently awaiting the outcome of an epic legal battle over the future of its 2.8GW HidroAysén hydropower project, which is being contested through the courts by environmental activists.
