Iberdrola will until 2014 manage and market electricity generated at the Aguieira and Raiva hydropower stations, which have capacities of 336MW and 24MW respectively. The Aguieira plant has a reversible pumping capacity of 270MW, representing 25% of Portugal’s total.

The bidding process, which was vetted by Portugal’s competition authorities, was the first of its kind on the Iberian Peninsula.

The bid is a continuation of Iberdrola’s extensive plans for developing Portugal’s hydropower sector.
