Two of the Alto T â mega dams will be pumping stations (900MW), while the other two will use pure turbines (234MW). They will both generate around 2,000 gigawatt hours a year, or 3% of Portugal's total electricity consumption. Iberdrola says that managing the Aguieira and Raiva stations will provide valuable experience in the run-up to the Alto T â mega project.
Iberdrola takes control of plants
Spanish company Iberdrola will take ownership of two Portuguese hydropower plants with a combined capacity of 360 megawatts (MW), after winning a competition run by Energias de Portugal.
