Many hydropower developers have struggled to obtain environmental licenses because of objections from native populations in the Amazon region, where the bulk of the projects are being proposed.
As a result, December’s A-5 tender – normally only available to hydropower – was opened up to wind, biomass and gas projects in an effort to meet the nation’s demand for power in 2016.
