Marine-energy start-up Hydra Tidal kicking off a two-year testing programme on its 1.5MW Morild 2 machine in the waters off northern Norway.
The Morild is a suction-anchored, semi-submersible machine that harnesses power from tidal and ocean currents using a quartet of "pitchable" 23-metre-diameter, two-bladed underwater turbines. Energy generated passes via a hydraulic system to power a pair of synchronous generators, with electricity sent to shore via a 22kV cable.
