Scotland has five other applications for hydropower projects under consideration. The country has a target of meeting half of its electricity demand from renewables by 2020, with an interim target of 31% by 2011.
Highlands project wins approval after two years
Scottish and Southern Energy has won approval for its 3.5- megawatt (MW) hydropower project in Scotland's north-western Highlands, two years after filing its initial application.
