The UK currently has an installed capacity of wave and tidal generation through several small testing facilities of just 2.4 MW. However, Andrew Mill, CEO of marine energy testing centre Narec, said that the industry is “on the cusp” of a major breakthrough, with large utilities like Vattenfall and E.ON beginning to invest in prototypes.
“We are going to need investment on balance sheets to get things started, and its when you see the big players coming in that you will start to see things happen,” said Mill.
