The pair will collaborate on a proposal for the region’s upcoming Marine Leasing Round, with a view to landing a lease from the UK Crown Estate to kick-start formal consent for the project.
According to MCT, the first phase of the development, which would use MCT’s 1.2MW SeaGen turbine, could be switched on by 2018.
“Our aim is to use our experience and technical strength to support the development of a viable ocean energy industry in Ireland and this project is an important step in realising that goal,” says ESBI chief executive Padraig McManus.
