“We have plans to develop hydro power and eventually depend less on coal and gas,” Syed Mohd Fauzi Shahab, director of electricity supply at Sarawak Public Utilities, tells Recharge.
When more hydro dams are built by 2020, Sarawak’s expected electricity generation mix of 8.4 gigawatts (GW) will comprise of 80% hydro, 13% coal and 7% gas, Mohd Fauzi says.
Sarawak currently has an installed capacity of 1.3GW
