Brazil warns of fall to come in renewables energy mix

Brazil’s 10-year electrical energy plan estimates that renewable energy will decrease from 85% to 80% of the country’s total supply, according to Brazil’s energy research centre.

The plan, released late last month, estimates that the expansion of the country's installed capacity will grow from 100,000 megawatts (MW) to 154,000MW from 2008 to 2017.

Renewable energy sources, including water, wind and biomass, are expected to generate 85,000MW in 2008 and increase 45% to 123,000MW in 2017. Oil-generated energy is expected to jump 452% from 1900MW to 10500MW from 2008 to 2017.
