The device is a scaled-down version of the AWS-III, a machine that keeps its moving mechanical parts out of contact with water in an innovative way.
It does this by using a system of flexible diaphragms arranged around a steel hull kitted out with air turbines.

The company aims to deploy a full-scale prototype next year, followed by a demonstrator plant in 2012.
