Its flagship 18-diameter rotor AK1000 is set to leave Isleburn Engineering’s fabrication yard in Invergordon, Scotland, for a grid-connected berth at the European Marine Energy Centre in Orkney later this summer.
Capable of despatching 1MW of power from current speeds of 2.65 metres per second, the AK1000, which weighs 130 tonnes and stands 22.5 metres high on a tripod foundation, is designed for harsh weather and rough, open ocean environments.
