A report by engineering consultants Worley Parsons puts the levelised cost of energy of AquaGen’s SurgeDrive technology between A$0.08 and A$0.24 per kWh ($0.085-0.255/kWh) depending on wave farm location, the renewables group says.
In optimum wave regions the technology would be competitive with onshore wind generation, and could undercut solar energy even in lower-wave conditions, it claims.
AquaGen hired Worley Parsons to review its technology as it embarked on a capital-raising drive to match federal- and state-funding and move it towards commercialisation.
