Russian officials acknowledge that there is little chance that those still missing will be rescued. Among the dead bodies which have been recovered, some were drowned and others were killed by falling debris.
It remains unclear what caused the disaster at the Sayano-Shushenskaya plant in southern Siberia, with conflicting press reports muddying the situation. Investigators initially speculated that a transformer had exploded during repairs, ripping apart walls and ceilings, and leading to a massive crush of water flooding the engine room.
