Global renewable generation capacity swelled by 167GW last year to reach 2,179GW, powered by a 32% explosion in the PV build-out and a 10% growth of the wind power fleet, according to the latest data from the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena).

The unprecedented expansion, which represents an annual increase of 8.3%, underlined the “fast pace” at which the worldwide energy transition is continuing, said Irena director-general Adnan Amin, launching the agency’s Renewable Capacity Statistics 2018.
