The UK oil & gas sector must adapt to a future dominated by renewable power in which fossil fuels play only a “residual” role, according to the industry’s main lobbying group.
Oil & Gas UK said that although the industry’s core products will still be needed in heating and transport, the rapidly evolving energy transition raises “the prospect of a largely renewable electricity system that only requires minimal back-up generation from fossil fuels”.
