Colombia’s new government has reaffirmed its commitment to a renewables programme launched by its predecessor designed to help the country reach 1.5GW of mainly solar and wind capacity by 2022.

The nation will hold its first tender to contract power under the programme in the first half of 2019, said mines and energy minister Maria Fernanda Suárez speaking at a seminar in La Guajira province, Colombia's most prominent wind district.
