Renewable power investments fell in 2017 and could do so again this year, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA), which claimed a “worrying” decline in global spending risks failing to spur the capacity needed to meet the aims of the energy transition.

The IEA said investment in renewable power – which accounted for two-thirds of the total pumped into electricity generation – dropped 7% last year, and “recent policy changes in China linked to support for the deployment of solar PV raise the risk of a slowdown in investment this year”.
