The development, Tres Amigas, would integrate the 240GW Western, 600GW Eastern and 70GW Texas interconnections via a power-transfer facility that could, when its first phase is completed, store and transfer thousands of megawatts to five million households in the surrounding area.
The superstation, which would be built around three converter stations at the Clovis site, could eventually be scaled up to handle 30GW of throughput, with multiple transmission lines from each of three interconnectors feeding power in and out through direct-current (DC) superconductor cables and current converters.
