Kibbutz Samar, near the Israeli city of Eilat, is host to the world’s first hybrid solar-thermal power station, which was switched on last week.
Operated by Israeli concentrating solar power (CSP) developer AORA, the 100-kilowatt plant is made up of an array of 30 tracking mirrors that reflect solar radiation on to a ‘porcupine receiver’ housed at the top of a tulip-shaped tower that will generate electricity.
