But the island, often referred to as “Little England” on account of its beautiful beaches and stunning countryside, is undergoing a community-driven energy revolution. With the help of several big business partners — and the support of the UK government — it is pressing ahead with a pioneering £300m ($480m) plan to become England’s first ecoisland — self-sufficient in energy through renewables.
