The 22-tonne, 1:6 scale Sway 1 turbine was sunk by the ‘Berit’ early winter storm, which produced waves of up to 6.3 metres and high water-levels off the west coast of Norway.
The turbine is now back onshore and intact, but will need between eight and 12 weeks of work replacing electrical components before reinstallation off Kollsnes.
Developer Sway says the conditions that sank the prototype at the end of last month “exceeded its design parameters” – but were well beyond anything the turbine would experience at full-size.
