The Scottish-European Green Energy Centre (SEGEC) was officially inaugurated by First Minister Alex Salmond, who was on hand to announce a £1.6m grant for the project under the European Regional Development Fund. Another £1m will be provided by Holyrood over the next three years.
Based at the University of Aberdeen, SEGEC will focus on marine energy; offshore wind; a European offshore super-grid; carbon capture and storage; renewable heat; and energy efficiency.
