Under the agreement, Schneider and Triton will collaborate on how to power the 4,850 kilometre ring Seahorse-1 – the proposed Caribbean fiber optic line running between Miami, Cacique, the Dominican Republic, Isla Verde and Puerto Rico – with low-carbon energy.
The system will be the first renewable energy powered underwater fibre optic communications network in the world and will use traditional power plants only as a backup, the companies said.
