The revelation is a further setback for the pioneering 10-metre-diameter ring-shaped machine, which has been running incommunicado since its wireless data communication system failed following deployment last November in a wild stretch of water known as the Minas Passage.
OpenHydro and its partner, provincial utility Nova Scotia Power (NSP), are aiming to retrieve the device from the seabed, in 35 metres of water, this autumn.
