By combining technologies including in-stream tidal turbines and tidal range “lagoon” and “fence” concepts with wave- and wind-farms, the study by regional development body Regen SW and consultants Marine Energy Matters claims the Bristol Channel area could produce low-carbon energy while protecting the environment.
The report Bristol Channel Energy: A Balanced Technology Approach says a series of large-scale schemes could be rolled out as technologies are proven and their environmental impacts closely studied.
