The WTS space frame tower, designed for wind farm sites calling for hub heights of 100 metres and more and 100-metre-plus rotor assemblies, is made up of a five-legged internal steel skeleton sheathed in high-tensile architectural fabric.
Its maker says the design marries the look and low-maintenance demands of a conventional tubular tower with the weight, transport, and foundations savings of a lattice tower, providing a structure for multi-megawatt turbines on a small footprint that is calculated to be 20-40% lighter than current tubular tower concepts.
