Contractor CTC Marine was attempting to pull the 1,800 metre landfall portion of the line up the beach off Cornwall when its floatation devices lost buoyancy, making it impossible to complete the pay-out of the 90 tonne section.
Following a further failed attempt, the 33kV cable was wound back onto the giant carousel aboard the installation vessel Nordica while a new plan was hatched.
