Only four firms — Norway’s Nexans, Italy’s Prymsian, Switzerland’s ABB and Denmark’s NKT — are currently supplying the sector with the highly specialised power-export cables it needs, says Ian Gaitch, director of Global Marine Systems’ (GMS) energy division.
“We may start to see another one or two firms moving in that direction, but whether or not they’ll be able to keep pace with the explosion of requirements in [the UK’s] Round 3 is pretty doubtful,” he adds.
