That represents an annual growth of 17%, compared to the 35% expansion seen in 2015.

The research group said the additional 10GW of new installations beyond the 59GW added last year will be dominated by the US, India and China.

IHS expects Germany to continue its fall down the global ranking of largest installed base, ending 2016 in fourth place below China, the US and Japan.
