Last October Blackstone – the world's third largest private-equity firm, and 80% owner of Germany's 288MW Meerwind offshore wind farm – announced the creation of Onyx Renewable Partners, to focus on developing, financing, building and operating North American renewables projects.
Although owned wholly by funds managed by Blackstone, Onyx was founded in partnership with a management team led by Matthew Rosenblum, the founder and chief executive of Solops, a five-year-old solar developer focused on the northeastern US.
