“We’ve been strong supporter of solar, and we will continue to be very strong supporters of solar,” says Premier John Brumby.

Brumby says the 154-megawatt, AUS$240m ($207m) Mildura plant that was being developed by Solar Systems, which went into voluntary administration on 7 September, “may well still succeed.”

“The technology itself is still very viable,” he says. “And they’re a company which, I think, has run into difficulties, essentially, because of the global financial crisis and more difficult equity markets.
