US to add 15GW of solar in 2016 on utility-scale boom, GTM says

The US will add a record 7.4GW of new solar capacity in 2015, up 19% on last year, and is on track to add an astonishing 15GW in 2016, as developers race to finish utility-scale projects ahead of the planned drop in the investment tax credit.

The US added 1.36GW of solar in the third quarter of 2015, marking its eighth straight quarter above the 1GW threshold, according to new figures from GTM Research and the Solar Energy Industries Association.

The US solar market will crack 10GW of annual additions for the first time in 2016. But without an ITC extension, it will take another four years to recover to that level, the report predicts.
