The “landscape-level” plan – covering an area the size of the state of Maine – proposes vast areas that should be kept off limits to renewables development, and others that should be made more easily accessible to project development.
The draft plan aims to preserve areas with high value for wildlife, recreation and culture, while “encouraging streamlined renewable energy development in the right places”, says Interior Secretary Sally Jewell.
