Southern California Edison is among the off-takers that are buying the power and renewable energy credits under long-term contracts.
Southern Power, the competitive power producer owned by Atlanta-based Southern Company, acquired 51% of the project in September last year. Recurrent parent Canadian Solar owns the remaining 49%.
Tranquillity is their first collaboration involving several large PV projects in the US. REC Solar supplied 800,000 solar modules for the project.
Construction of the Tranquillity project created 456 peak construction jobs, with approximately 57% of workers hailing from within 50 miles of the project site. More than $5M was spent locally on materials and services to support construction activities, with Signal Energy Constructors providing engineering, procurement and construction services.
The project drew praise from environmental groups for utilizing drainage impaired, marginally productive farm lands being retired from agricultural production.
