Little-known Raasi Green will build the array and the associated transmission infrastructure in Ramanathapuram district, along the Bay of Bengal coast some 500km south of the state capital Chennai.
The project – set to cover 500 acres and include room for massive future expansion – is slated to cost 9.2bn rupees ($170m).
In October Tamil Nadu launched its solar-energy strategy, which aims to see 3GW of capacity built by 2015, with no carve-out for either PV or concentrated solar power.
