SunPower to swell capacity, focus on consumer-facing branding

SunPower will more than triple its manufacturing capacity over the next five years, the majority of which will be for its Low Concentrated PV (LCPV) product, and “turbocharge” its branding efforts, according to chief executive Tom Werner.

The California-based company will boost its overall production capacity to just shy of 4GW by 2019, up from about 1.3GW at present.

The expansion will include the completion of its fourth cell facility (rated at 350MW) expected to begin production in 2015, the construction of a fifth PV production facility (rated at 800MW) due to begin operations in 2017, and as much as 1.5GW
