California-based SunPower, in which French energy giant Total recently took a 60% stake, recognized shipments of 190MW of solar panels and $592.3m in second quarter revenue, up 54% from the year earlier. But gross margin of only 3.3% led to a $147.9m loss, or $1.51 per share, compared to a loss of $6.2m loss a year ago and $2.1m in the first quarter.
