By 2016, the plant will allow SunEdison to produce 400W solar panels for $0.40/W – a “step change” for the PV sector, Missouri-based SunEdison says.
The most competitive module makers today are producing for just under $0.50/W.
SMP – a joint venture of SunEdison, SunEdison Semiconductor and Samsung Fine Chemicals – had originally planned to build a polysilicon factory in Ulsan, South Korea with 10,000 metric tonnes of annual production capacity.
