As part of the revised deal, SunEdison also announced that Blackstone, the world's largest private-equity firm, will become one of its major shareholders.
As Vivint Solar's largest owner, Blackstone was set to reap a major payout under the original deal. But Blackstone has now committed to providing SunEdison with a $250m credit facility to fund its "ongoing growth".
SunEdison claims to be the world's largest renewables developer, and Vivint Solar is the second largest US installer of rooftop PV, trailing SolarCity.
