Salazar unveiled a host of programmes, starting with the identification of “Solar Energy Study Areas”, 24 tracts of federally administered land totalling about 670,000 acres (271,139 hectares) in Nevada, Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah. The areas were selected for several factors important to solar development including slope, access to roads and electric transmission lines or corridors and adequate size for at least 10 megawatts of solar or more.
