SunEdison secured a 10-year offtake agreement with Ontario’s grid operator for a 5MW/20MWh vanadium redox flow battery system, which will help the Canadian province better integrate wind and solar. Imergy Power Systems, based near San Francisco, will supply the technology. The storage system, to be built during 2017, will be SunEdison’s first grid-scale storage project. Earlier this year SunEdison took a big step into the storage business through its acquisition of Philadelphia-based Solar Grid Storage, which focuses on behind-the-meter storage for C&I applications.
