Abengoa’s 50MW Khi Solar One reached full commercial operation in South Africa’s Northern Cape, becoming the first full concentrated solar power (CSP) plant on the African continent to do so. The project, awarded as part of South Africa’s first renewables tender round in 2011, is majority owned by Abengoa (51%), with the Industrial Development Corporation, a South African development-finance bank, owning 29%, and a local community trust owning the remaining 20%.
